2012 NBA Draft Profile: Kendall Marshall

Written by Jeff Fox on .

Kendall Marshall
North Carolina - Sophomore (Born 1991)
Point Guard
6'4" 198lbs

The Good:

- pure point guard
- good size for his position
- terrific passer & playmaker
- great basketball IQ
- great floor leader
- takes great care of the ball
- makes teammates better

The Bad:

- a year older than other sophomores
- no scoring ability
- not spectacular athlete
- weak on defense
- missed end of sophomore year due to broken wrist & elbow

NBA Comparison:

Andre Miller, Mark Jackson

The Skinny:

If you are looking for a pure point guard in this draft, then Kendall Marshall is your man.  He's pretty much ready right now to step in and run an NBA team, however he will probably struggle on defense and will have to prove he can score to keep defenses honest.

His defense may be a liablity that you can't take! If he can't guard his opposition Davis or whomever will be in foul trouble so no lobs there

@DonaldCooper The defense is the big problem with taking him.  But in a draft weak in point guards, he's going to go early.

@Jeff Fox he should have along with henson and barnes to improve their weaknesses. He could have used another year to work on defense and his shot. Henson needs to bulk up and develop more offensively, Barnes needs to develop more than a one dribble and shoot, he doesn't have the killer instinct which I thought he had in his freshman year....to me he took a step back!

@Jeff Fox I agree. I don't think either one of them will be big contirbutors, marshall has the best chance because of his assist to turnover ratio and leadership of the offense but defensively he is a swing gate

@DonaldCooper  @Jeff Players tend to not think long-term - if they are projected to be a lottery pick, they jump from college, whether they are ready or not.  It's a cash grab - they're not thinking about the length/longevity of their careers.

I think New Orleans should take him at #10. If not, then Portland at 11.

@CollegeWolf Ya, a team could do a hell of a lot worse than having Marshall throwing lobs to Anthony Davis all game.

@Jeff Fox No doubt. Throw in Eric Gordon and that's quite the rebuilt foundation.
