I had a horrible revelation this morning, the type that will make you jerk awake in the middle of the night.  THE MIAMI HEAT ARE GOING TO WIN THE NBA CHAMPIONSHIP THIS YEAR!!!!! Yes, I know, a horrible thought, but unfortunately it appears to be true.

Coming into the season, I didn't think the Heat had much of a chance to grab the title this year.  They had too many new players to work into the team, no big men of significance, not enough depth.  Heading into the playoffs, I figured Miami could be beat by Boston, possibly Orlando, the Lakers, possibly the Spurs - basically there were enough teams out there to keep the Heat out of the champion's circle.  But now, Orlando is gone, the Spurs are gone, the Lakers are on their way out, and Miami is battering Boston.  Which leaves us with the Heat as the probably favourites after the dust settles from the second round.  Atlanta or Chicago aren't going to beat the Heat; Dallas or Oklahoma City or Memphis aren't going to come out of the West and beat them either.

One of the worst kept secrets known to man was finally officially revealed yesterday when Chicago's Derrick Rose was named the NBA MVP, making him the youngest winner of the League's highest honour.  This, of course, came as a shock to no one as Rose seemingly was given the award in the media months ago.  You can't really argue too hard with this choice (although I voted for Dwight Howard in our awards spectacular), as Rose was the best player on the League's best team.  What can be argued, however, is whether or not Rose is even the best player at his own position in the NBA.

grant hill 1991 ncaa title game alley-oop

We started with 16 dunks and are now down to the final two.  Which dunk will be crowned as The Hoops Manifesto's 2010/11 College Dunk of the Year?  You, good reader, get to decide.

The Finals round of voting is now open.  The rules are pretty simple: you, the reader, vote for which dunk is the best between each pair (please only vote once per dunk - no ballot stuffing - that's why a valid e-mail address is required for each voting ballot). Each round of voting will be open for a week and we'll continue until we have crowned our champion.

Voting for The Finals ends this Sunday at midnight Eastern.

Every good magician needs a reliable assistant - someone to do the dirty work for them, someone to help them pull off their miracles.  Even a magician who goes by the nickname 'Superman'.  Of course we're talking about Magic man Dwight Howard, whose Orlando squad continued their slow slide from contender to pretender last night by getting booted out of the first round of this year's playoffs by the Atlanta Hawks.

And then there were four.  Four dunkers and dunks remain in The Hoops Manifesto's 2010/11 College Dunk of the Year Tournament.  Who will make it to the title game?  You, good reader, get to decide.

The Final Four round of voting is now open.  The rules are pretty simple: you, the reader, vote for which dunk is the best between each pair (please only vote once per dunk - no ballot stuffing - that's why a valid e-mail address is required for each voting ballot).
