Written by Jeff Fox

I know what that nagging question is that is keeping you up at night.  "Who did Jeff Fox choose for his selection of NBA MVP and Rookie of the Year this season?"  Well let me put your mind at ease and let you sleep at night.  Here is my voting ballot for the Bloguin MVP & ROY awards that I submitted last week:

And then there were eight. The readers have spoken and we have listened, and the field for the 2009/10 NCAA Dunk of the Year Tournament has been reduced to these eight elite dunks. The Cal State Fullerton Titans dominated Round 1, with both of Gerard Anderson's dunks winning their matchups while teammate Aaron Thompson advanced as well. Now Thompson and Anderson are going head-to-head for a spot in the Final Four.

A Memo To The Oklahoma City Thunder

A memo to the Oklahoma City Thunder:

Please start acting your age.  You are not supposed to be this good this soon.  Your top four players are 23-years-old or younger.  Even your coach, Scott Brooks, is inexperienced and young.  And don't forget, you play in the Western Conference in one of the League's smallest markets.  You have NO BUSINESS winning a playoff game versus the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.  You really have no business even making the playoffs this season.  You were supposed to be improved this year - maybe challenge for a playoff spot early in the year before falling off the pace.  Then, maybe, you'd be ready to make the playoffs in 2011.

teenwolf dunk

Readers of this site already know that we are fans of big-time dunks (but, then again, who isn't?). In fact, we've already dubbed five or six dunks "NCAA Dunk of the Year" in the past few months. But which dunk really was the sickest dunk from this past NCAA season? The answer to that question is the quest The Hoops Manifesto is about to partake in. Welcome to The Hoops Manifesto's NCAA Dunk of the Year Tournament.

We've selected 16 of the best dunks for the 2009/10 NCAA basketball season and have paired them up in a single elimination tournament. The rules are pretty simple: you, the reader, vote for which dunk is the best between each pair (please only vote once per dunk - no ballot stuffing). Each round of voting will be open for a week and we'll continue until we have crowned our champion. And, as an added incentive to vote, there will be prizes.

SLAM magazine, the greatest basketball mag on the planet (due in no small part to my elegant prose frequently gracing its pages) has donated a SLAM prize pack (t-shirt, magazines, etc.) as a prize and, aswell, we'll also be givingaway the always stylish Hoops Manifesto t-shirts. Every time you vote on a dunk you will be entered in the draw for a prize. To earn additional entries, retweet this article on Twitter or post a link on your Facebook page and we'll give you an extra entry in the draw.

Without further ado, let's get this show on the road.

Voting for Round 1 ends Sunday, April 25th at midnight Eastern. Voting ballot at the bottom of the article.

Written by Jeff Fox

ncaa vs nba

It is an age-old debate among basketball aficionados - which brand of hoops is best, the NBA or the NCAA.  While there is no right or wrong answer to this question - it basically comes down to personal preference - that doesn't stop people from having very strong opinions on the subject.  In that vein we present to you the latest Bloguin Basketball Roundtable - NCAA vs NBA.

Participants in this battle royale are Jeff Fox of The Hoops Manifesto, Don from With Malice, a Bloguin newcomer in Ezra of The Purple and Gold Blog, Dave "College Wolf" Kelsey of TWolves Blog, David Pustilink from Da Bulls' Eye, Gene Zarnick of Favre Dollar Footlongs and A Stern Warning's mookie.

Check out Part One here.

funny dunk

Readers of this site already know we are fans of big-time dunks (but, then again, who isn't?).  In fact, we've already dubbed five or six dunks "NCAA Dunk of the Year" in the past few months.  But which dunk really was the sickest dunk from this past NCAA season?  The answer to that question is the quest The Hoops Manifesto is about to partake in.  But we need your help.  We've already got plenty of dunks lined up for our NCAA Dunk of the Year tournament, but in order to ensure we didn't miss a ridiculous dunk we are asking our beloved readers to let us know which NCAA dunk stood out in their minds from this past season.  Send your favourite dunk (with video link) This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  and we will consider it for entry in the tournament.  Together we can blow minds.

NCAA Championship Preview: The Clock Strikes Midnight

cinderella clock midnight

Everything is impermanent.  A mantra that the Butler Bulldogs would be wise to remember when the clock strikes midnight (literally and figuratively) tonight.  They had an amazing run, but everything must come to an end.  And, unfortunately for us dreamers out there, it is going to come to an end via a loss to the Duke Blue Devils.

Considering The Miracle of St. Anthony is one of my favourite basketball books of all-time, it should come as no surprise that I loved the documentary on the same subject, The Street Stops Here. That subject, for those uninitiated (shame on you) is the St. Anthony's (New Jersey) high school boys basketball team and its legendary coach, Bob Hurley.

The McDonald's High School All-American Game held its dunk contest last night, featuring Tristan Thompson, Josh Shelby and Perry Jones, among others.  Let's hope these kids get to the NBA soon so that they can lively up that dunk contest.

Recent Daily Dunks: Russian Dunk Contest, Josh Smith's Game-Winner.
