The Daily Dunk: Russian Cup Dunk Contest
Written by Jeff Fox
Thursday, 25 March 2010 11:28

The Daily Dunk is a regular feature on The Hoops Manifesto where we search the many corners of the internet to find the best dunk videos to save you the time and trouble.  Consider it your one-stop shop for rim-rattling, death-defying, baby-crying, slam-jamming dunkerific fun.  Next up: Russian Cup Dunk Contest.

While the NBA Slam Dunk Contest was a bust this year, the one held at the Russian Cup certainly was not.  You'll recognize a few Americans in this video, Gerald Green and James White among them.

Recent Daily Dunks: Josh Smith's Game-Winner, Amar'e Stoudemire on Anthony Tolliver.

Now this is how you dunk - make it look pretty AND win the game at the buzzer. Well played, young Master Smith.

Brackets? We Don't Need No Stinking Brackets!

obama ncaa bracket

Are you enjoying the NCAA Tournament so far?  If so, I'm guessing you aren't a big gambler and/or bracket filler-outer (yes, I am professional writer and I just used the term "filler-outer").  With all the crazy upsets and Cinderella runs this year, everyone's brackets are in shambles.  But if you are true college basketball fan, that shouldn't matter to you.  Because real fans don't need brackets or wagers to enjoy the tournament.

There was a time not long ago when microfracture surgery was a death sentence for a player.  Don't tell that to Amar'e Stoudemire, who survived through multiple knee and eye surgeries yet can still bring the pain like this.

Recent Daily Dunks: Shaun Livingston, High School Backboard Smasher.

This dunk by Shaun Livingston shouldn't be that surprising.  This type of play was expected out of him before cataclysmic injuries took away all the promise we once saw in him coming out of high school.  Regardless, even without this back story, it's still a nice dunk.

Recent Daily Dunks: High school backboard smasher, Corey Brewer.

Here's a link to the final instalment for the Bloguin Basketball Roundtable: Road to the Playoffs edition.  I'm not quoted in this one, but the rest of the Bloguin basketball family are wise men, so take a look:

Bloguin Basketball Roundtable: Road to the Playoffs, Part 2
Written by Jeff Fox
Saturday, 20 March 2010 08:33

Here's Part 2 of me and my Bloguin basketball brothers breaking down the NBA playoff contenders and pretenders.

NBA Bloguin.
This is part two of the round-table discussion that was begun yesterday.
A reminder of who is participating in the first round of discussion was Dave Kelsey (T-Wolves Blog),David Pustilnik (Da Bullseye),Gene Zarnick (Favre Dollar Footlongs), Mookie (A Stern Warning), Jeff Fox (The Hoops Manifesto) and Don (With Malice).

Once more, the topic:
With a little more than a month remaining of the NBA schedule, who do you see as the main contenders? Who's a dark horse? What teams do you think will surprise, and who will disappoint?

Or viewed as:
1. Who do you see as the main contenders?
2. Who's a dark horse?
3. What teams do you think will surprise;
4. and who will disappoint?

This is part 2, part 1 was yesterday, and part 3 is to follow...

Don (With Malice)
Ok... throwing this question out there (primarily to David - who's answered - but others too!):
Given thus far we're looking at LA/Cleveland/Orlando, what does each need to do to get over the hump?
My answer would be:
- LA. Forget about wins. Forget about offense. Forget about defense. Forget Xs & Os. Get back your intensity, the rest will follow.
- Cleveland. Can Shaq/Z a) maintain their health, & b) fit back in upon return? Two big Qs. And a caveat: Cleveland will only beat Orlando if Shaq can control/limit Dwight.
- Orlando. Dwight needs to stop having nightmares about Shaq.

Dave Pustilnik (Da Bullseye)
I think the Lakers are just in their own heads right now. It's that late-season lull that a great team always has to eventually put behind them before their intensity returns.

I remember the '98 Bulls went through the exact same thing, which prevented them from winning 70 games in back-to-back seasons. As soon as the playoffs are in sight, all this talk about being "soft" and not wanting it will be long-gone. The keys for LA are to just get out of their own heads and start to play consistent basketball leading into the playoffs (whether they win or lose is of minimal importance), and of course, stay healthy.

Josh Smith Has His Heart Broken

There is perhaps nothing as painful in this world of ours as unrequited love.  You think you found your soulmate only to discover they want nothing to do with you.  Josh Smith - we all feel your pain.

High school basketball player Nate VanArendonk is a murderer..... of backboards.  Look what he did to this innocent, unsuspecting backboard during a playoff game in Michigan.
