Every Sunday The Hoops Manifesto and Bloguin's NCAA hoops writers come together to vote on the four best teams in the country, our Fabulous Four, plus the best team from a non-BCS conference. We present to you the Fab Four Plus One - because who has time to read a list of 25 teams.
Voters: Jeff Fox from The Hoops Manifesto, Flounder from Leftover Hot Dog and Philip from Rise Northwestern.
Fabulous Four
1) (Last week - 1) Ohio State - 14 (out of possible 15) points
Record: 20-0
Games this week: Tues vs Purdue, Sat @ Northwestern
"Two of Ohio State's signature wins this season have come on the road - Florida early in the season and Illinois this past Saturday. Bodes well for the Buckeyes come tournament time." - Jeff Fox
"If Sullinger ever sucks then the team will too, but has not happened yet. Purdue game will be one to watch." - Flounder
"The Buckeyes survived a scare from the Illini this weekend and the Boilermakers loom next. But Ohio State really has not played the best in the Big Ten. The home game against Purdue this week will be a really difficult challenge for this squad." - Philip
2) (NR) Pittsburgh - 12 points
Record: 19-1
Games this week: Mon vs Notre Dame, Sat @ Rutgers
"Pitt makes a triumphant return to the Fab Four and their resume is looking real solid, with four wins over top 25 teams thus far. Can they make it five on Monday versus the Irish?" - Jeff Fox
"Back near the top again but can it last with the Fighting Irish ready to fight?" - Flounder
"The Panthers came out and dumped the Orange for a very impressive win. Still, can Pitt win a title? They struggled with DeJuan Blair in the lineup to do it. Now the expectations to win are back and Pitt has a tough road to travel in the Big East. The wins the Panthers have picked up though are very impressive." - Philip
3) (2) Duke - 10 points
Record: 18-1
Games this week: Thurs vs Boston College, Sun @ St. John's
"The Blue Devils are back on track after their slip up versus Florida State. And with only a weak ACC to beat up on the rest of the way (other than games versus St. John's and Temple), Duke shouldn't be tested until the tournament." - Jeff Fox
"Coach K has righted the ship and Blue Devils are playing with attitude." - Flounder
"Well, it looks like Duke has hit a rough patch. They are not playing as well as earlier in the season. But the Blue Devils might be pacing themselves. They are still winning... and still very good." -
Philip
4) (NR) Texas - 2 points
Record: 16-3
Games this week: Wed @ Oklahoma State, Sat vs Missouri

"In ending Kansas' 69-game home winning streak, the Longhorns have announced that they are for real this season. They've beaten four top 25 teams so far, including a 21-point spanking of Texas A&M this past Wednesday." - Jeff Fox
Top Non-BCS Team
San Diego State - unanimous selection
Record: 20-0
Games this week: Wed @ BYU, Sat vs Wyoming

"The biggest non-BCS game of the year goes down this Wednesday as San Diego State tangles with BYU. The true worth of the Aztecs will come to light this week." - Jeff Fox
"BYU game is biggest game in Aztec basketball history and the Gay/Fredette match-up will be fun to watch." - Flounder
"The Aztecs are undefeated still and that deserves some credit. Wednesday they visit Jimmer Fredette and BYU. That should be fun." - Philip
