Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out.

Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.

Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.

Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (Who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Here where we need ya (Here where we need ya)

Yeah we tease him a lot cause we've hot him on the spot, welcome back,
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.

John Sebastien's lyrics to Welcome Back Kotter pretty much sums up the Allen Iverson-76ers reunion.  Surprise, surprise, Allen Iverson's retirement didn't last very long, did it?  Iverson should be thanking his lucky stars, because after going unwanted by 29 teams in the league he finds himself back in Philly, which should be a good fit for him - for now.  With incumbent point guard Louis Williams out a couple of months with a broken jaw, Iverson can have his coveted starting spot.  And this (re)union will be mutually beneficial for the Sixers, who are a miserable 5-14 so far (but are only three games out of a playoff spot), are near the bottom of the league in scoring and are second last in attendance.  Iverson can help them in all of these categories.  Despite their ugly divorce, Philly stills love AI so attendance is going to soar.  Plus, Philly needs a scorer.  The other AI, Andre Iguodala, isn't a go-to scorer and Philadelphia has proven to be kryptonite to the formerly potent Elton Brand, so Iverson can slide right in and become The Man.

However, despite a teary Iverson saying all the right things today about wanting to retire a Sixer, the chances of this marriage ending happily after all is slim.  What happens when Williams heals and is ready to hit the court again - is Iverson willing to give up some minutes and perhaps - GASP - his starting spot for the good of the team?  Well, lets put it this way - enjoy the next couple of months Sixer fans, because it is the calm before the storm.  Because if Allen Iverson doesn't get his way, all hell is going to break loose.  And even Mr. Kotter won't be able to smooth things over.
